At Craters of the Moon National Monument, forests and meadows give way to the strange landscape of lava fields and cinder cones left by multiple volcanic eruptions over many thousands of year.

For contrast, one can also visit the world’s first Experimental Breeder Reactor, dubbed EBR-1, that shepherded the peaceful use of atomic energy.
