The Black Hills, Needles Highway and Custer State Park

As contrast to The Badlands we headed 100 miles north into the Black Hills.
The hills are lush with growth and black with dense growth of ponderosa pine. We made the most of our short time there with visits to Wind Cave and Jewel Cave National Parks although, unfortunately, circumstances prevented us from entering either cave; Mt. Rushmore; and a beautiful and sometimes hairy drive down Needles Highway to Custer State Park. There we enjoyed the beautiful scenery with a walk around Scenic Lake.
